Review: Elemenopeo

Elemenopeo
Elemenopeo by Harriet Ziefert

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is one of the first books that my daughter checked out from her school library in 1st grade.

She loved reading this one with me. She go to actually read herself during a few parts that she could sound out the words. It totally made her feel accomplished that she was reading to me!

It's a lovable story about a very particular cat who is very happy with a set schedule.

When things got in the way of that schedule, he improvised and made the most of it by creating art.

I would recommend this book to young cat lovers, and young aspiring artists.

The illustrations were incredibly vibrant and very cute as well. Just look at this tail on the cover...doesn't that just make you smile? :o)

Review: Nature's Little Helpers

Nature's Little Helpers (Disney Fairies)Nature's Little Helpers by Andrea Posner-Sanchez

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tinkerbell is so loved in my house. And - this book is sure to be one of our favorites. Not only is it printed on 100% recycled material - it is also printed using vege-inks. How's that for "Earth-Conscious?"

There are "Go Green" tips on almost every other page too -- conserving water - reUsing items - you name it. :o) I am a very earth-conscious mom anyway, and talk about this type of stuff with my daughter. But - it's great to have another tool, as well.

She loved the book - from talking about the ways we can help the Earth to looking at the beautfuily illustrated pages. She talked about each Fairy's job too. She GETS it! :o)

Happy reading...

p.s. we are going to incorporate some of the "tips" in this book into our crafts and daily life.

Review: The Day It Rained Hearts

The Day It Rained HeartsThe Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked this quick little book. It's short enough to read quickly - yet very inspiring. It gave us a lot to talk about...including love and gifting. My daughter loves to make cards and craft too- so she thought it was neat that Cornelia did as well. The illustrations are darling and the animals are too cute too.

Review: Curious Kitties

Curious KittiesCurious Kitties by Sam McKendry

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It's funny how books can get lost on only one single shelf. We cleaned off our shelf in the living room - to make way for more books and transferred this one upstairs to my little girl's bedroom shelf.

We have had this book for quite some time - and it used to be one of her favorites. It was one of her very first color learning books. I liked it because she was excited about touching each of the colors - since they were 3D. From an early age - she also learned to LOVE pop-up books as I did when I was young. There is even a pop-up surprise on the last page as well.

Review: Calm Down Boris!

Calm Down Boris!Calm Down Boris! by Sam Lloyd

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was opened this morning as a Holiday gift:

My daughter loved this one. She wanted to read it to me right after we were finished. I can tell it will be one she learns quickly too.

It's a silly - laugh inducing - fun book that will be especially helpful for bringing her out of "not-so-happy" moods that she gets into from time to time.

Review: The Copycat Fish

Copycat Fish (RB Fish & Friends) (Rainbow Fish and Friends)Copycat Fish (RB Fish & Friends) by Marcus Pfister

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is one of the books that was given to us by family as a "pass-down" gift.

My daughter loved it, and she actually offered her two cents too.

She said that she loves to copycat because sometimes that's how she learns. We talked about how some people might get annoyed at seeing copycats or being copied. But, she let me know that she would know when they were getting upset and stop.

I've always loved the illustrations of the Rainbow Fish books. Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums to paint with as well as look at.

Review: The Snow Child

The Snow ChildThe Snow Child by Freya Littledale

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I remember this book well from when I was a child. I was excited to see that we had it on our bookshelf. It has been handed down from family - or it may even be the one that I kept through the years. I wish I knew for sure.

My version of the book came with a cassette and I would listen to it often.

Now that I am older, and have a child of my own - I do appreciate the story more. If I were rating it - I would give it a 3 instead of 4 because of the bittersweet narrative. But - my daughter loved the book - just as I did when I was small.

She was smiling throughout the entire thing. And - asked me to read it again but to her "baby lion" that she sleeps with...just so she could hear it a second time. :o)

Tonight - she has also asked for a repeat reading of the book. This may be one she will be able to recite to me soon enough. :oD
